The Small Paul Update: Gardai Still on the Hunt for Pervert DJ

More Donegal Town breaking news…Conflicting reports on Pervert DJ "Small Paul". A few days ago I overheard in the post office that he had been arrested at a kiddies birthday party. It now appears though that he is on the run down about Cork somewhere. Gardai sniffer dogs are on the case though, and it’s only a matter of time before the twisted disc jockey is caught. The mob will be queuing up to tar and feather him, before lynching him in good old fashioned Irish justice.

From OceanFM…It’s emerged that wanted British paedophile, Alexander Colin Dalgleish, who previously worked in both Donegal Town and Sligo, fled from his home in County Cork earlier this week as publicity surrounding his identitiy emerged. The DJ, known locally as "Small Paul", has been living in Glanmire, where he was working part-time. Gardai in Cork missed apprehending him by just 48 hours. Dalgleish was jailed five years ago for having sex with a 13 year old girl and for sexually assulting a second. Under the terms of his early prison release, he was required to notify British police of his movements, but failed to do so. It emerged, when his details were posted on a website, that Dalgleish had lived in the Donegal Town area up to last September under the name "Paul Williams", and worked widely as a DJ in the area, as well as in various other jobs. He also worked in a number of jobs in the Sligo Town area in the past three years. Gardai are still searching for him, and he’s believed to be still in the Munster area.

I’ll try and keep you posted on this story as it has huge implications for Donegal’s DJs and for the lynch mob. Be vigilant.

Convicted paedophile flees south Donegal (from OceanFM)
The Taoiseach says there is no evidence that paedophiles who move to Ireland from the UK
are offending in this jurisdiction.

He was reacting to questions in the Dail from Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny who asked what
was being done to track down child abusers who take up residence here.

It comes as news emerges today that one of Britain’s most wanted child sex offenders has been living and working in Donegal Town for the last two to three years.

Alexander Colin Dalgleish’s image appeared on British television channels last week in reports of the launch of a new “name and shame” website.

Dalgleish was known in south Donegal as “Paul Williams” and in discos in Donegal Town, Killybegs Bundoran as DJ “Small Paul”.

He was sentenced to nine month imprisonment in 2001 for having sex with a 13 year old girl but wasn’t wanted in connection with any unsolved crime. He had however, failed to comply with restrictions on his movements, as stipulated on the Sex Offender’s register, which is an arrestable offence.

The former entertainments manager at a North Wales caravan site was jailed for nine months in 2001 for having sex with one 13-year-old girl and indecently assaulting another. (From Irish Independent)

Mr. Ahern said the vetting system in this country is working satisfactorily.

Bundoran town councillor, Michael McMahon, doesn’t share the Taoiseach’s views.

An Bord Pleanala has indicated no decision will be reached on a proposed Dunnes Stores development at the Mullans outside Donegal Town today.

A spokesperson did state the appeal is in the final stages of being ruled on.

Donegal county council had initially granted planning permission for the development at the roundabout on the Killybegs road out of Donegal Town.

It looks like we’re stuck shopping in Lidl and Super Value for another 10 years or so.

Gardai in south Donegal are warning business owners to be on alert after a premises in Donegal Town was the victim of conmen at the weekend. A €500 note was passed across the counter at the petrol station on the Killybegs road. The culprits looked for change for the note in an attempt to dupe the cashier. After a second transaction, the men left with €200 more than they entered the premises. Crime prevention officer in Co Donegal, Garda Sargeant, Paul Wallace said such crimes are a regular occurence. Unemployment drop in Donegal?

Ocean FM reports on unemployment in Donegal:

Unemployment rates have fallen in Co Donegal during the month of October.

That’s in spite of increases in Ballyshannon and Donegal Town while Killybegs showed a drop of 60 people or 7% on the previous month.

8,153 people were on the live register in Co Donegal at the end of October as opposed to 8,340 at the end of the previous month.

Of the eight towns taken into account in Donegal, the biggest increase was in Donegal Town where 484 people were on the live register at the end of last month. That was up just over 14% or 61 on the previous month.

Ballyshannon was up 7% to 482 while the larger population centres of Letterkenny and Buncrana both showed moderate drops.

In Killybegs, the decrease was most evident with 787 people on the register at the end of October as opposed to 847 the previous month.

The other towns surveyed, Dungloe, Dunfanaghy and Ballybofey all showed small decreases.

What jobs are there now that Hospira is closed and Magees is about to shut? Eco tourism, fishing trips, walks in the rain up the mountain…there’s not much about in the way of jobs, and that’s why most of the young population are heading for Dublin or elsewhere for work. The town needs something or it’s going to die a slow death.
