Unemployment drop in Donegal?

Ocean FM reports on unemployment in Donegal:

Unemployment rates have fallen in Co Donegal during the month of October.

That’s in spite of increases in Ballyshannon and Donegal Town while Killybegs showed a drop of 60 people or 7% on the previous month.

8,153 people were on the live register in Co Donegal at the end of October as opposed to 8,340 at the end of the previous month.

Of the eight towns taken into account in Donegal, the biggest increase was in Donegal Town where 484 people were on the live register at the end of last month. That was up just over 14% or 61 on the previous month.

Ballyshannon was up 7% to 482 while the larger population centres of Letterkenny and Buncrana both showed moderate drops.

In Killybegs, the decrease was most evident with 787 people on the register at the end of October as opposed to 847 the previous month.

The other towns surveyed, Dungloe, Dunfanaghy and Ballybofey all showed small decreases.

What jobs are there now that Hospira is closed and Magees is about to shut? Eco tourism, fishing trips, walks in the rain up the mountain…there’s not much about in the way of jobs, and that’s why most of the young population are heading for Dublin or elsewhere for work. The town needs something or it’s going to die a slow death.
